My Biggest Wish

... is for all of the families out there to be granted their wishes for a child or more children.

I am extremely lucky to have seven naturally conceived children, including a set of twins. I know there are so many people wanting, waiting and wishing for a child. I think about those people all the time and I don't, for a second, take any of my blessings for granted.

I have had children who have taken only one month to conceive, yet Ethan took over a year to conceive. In a way (having six children already), I know how painful and heartbreaking trying for a child can be. Seeing just one line, or having AF show up in full force month after month is draining, stressful and just generally tiring.

The day you finally get your two lines is a day that you will never forget. Whether it is your first child or ninth, the feeling doesn't fade. All of that stress, pain, heartbreak and hope was worth it for that one day. Hopefully, nine months later, a miracle is welcomed into the world.

I wasn't planning on blogging about my pregnancy until I am well past 12 weeks, but I will say this. While we are over the moon that we will be welcoming another addition into our family, I can't help but think of those who aren't as lucky.

I wish, wish, wish that for every unplanned baby, two more could be granted to those who are patiently waiting.

Unfortunately, life doesn't work like that.

Good luck to all of those who are trying for a child. I am constantly thinking about you.

  1. Thats so sweet. I too conceived both my lovelies within a blink of an eyelid (took 2 weeks for each) and I have friends who just can't conceive. My heart goes out to them too and I only wish I could pass on part of my conception luck. Best wishes for your 8th pregnancy!

  2. I was incredibly lucky getting preggers with my daughter, and number two (due in Sept/Oct) but never take it for granted, and really feel for women who find it harder to conceive. I do agree with you about that primeval urge to have children - it's always just as strong, whether you already have 0 kids, or 10. Before we successfully tried for baby number two my partner told me: Oh well, if it doesn't work out it's OK because we already have one - that's when I knew that he'd never fully understand the strength of the maternal urge!!!!! Good luck with your pregnancy. x

  3. Conceiving my two kids was extremely easy for me too. There are times when I almost feel guilty when friends are going through so much to conceive even once successfully.

We have been very blessed too.

  4. Wow, congratulations!! I understand how you feel. I got pregnant very easily (a little too easily) even though I was an older mom. I feel so fortunate. I had friends who were struggling to conceive. Sometimes it just seems so unfair. There are so many incredible men and women out there who want children and struggle to conceive, and then there are the careless who fall accidentally pregnant. It's like some Russian roulette of fertility.

  6. This was a lovely post.

I totally get that you are keeping those who can't get pregnant as "easily" as you do (or at all) in your mind. But I'm glad that you and your husband appreciate all of your blessings...can't wait to read more about it! :)

  8. God bless your big family. We stopped at three and I sometimes wish we'd get a miracle and have one more.

  9. I wish you the very best...I had seven, and got pregnant sometimes by just thinking about it, I swear! Then I got divorced, and seven years later I married a man who had four, and so we had eleven. The reason we stuck with eleven is because we didn't want twelve. Not that the ones we had weren't great!! But eleven was the limit for us. I felt unreasonably fortunate, and almost felt bad because it was so easy for me. I can't wait to read more as the story unfolds. :)
